Tools, Parts, Safety & Preparedness

Course facilitators will show participants the appropriate way to handle all tools.  Facilitators will elaborate on the "how to" and "what to look out for", when operating wood working tools and implements.

Topics will range from the use of a measuring tape and the thickness of a saw blade cut, recognizing when a blade is not cutting well and the replacement process, to avoiding hazards and work place safety.

Preparedness is a key element in giving participants useful and transferable skills such as planning, to avoid unwanted outcomes, and mitigating risks.

Many simplistic techniques will be conveyed that will serve participants long after they are finished the course giving them the confidence and basic skill set needed to further their interests in working with wood.

NOTE: In this stage of the course all wood for the build of gun safes will be measured and ready to cut out.  If there is time, the cuts can be made once all instruction is completed and while the course facilitator is available for oversight.  If participants want to return in the evening after supper to continue on what they have started, they will need to discuss this with the facilitator so that it may be accommodated.
